How much did God bestow?<\/div>\n
The whole creation homage paid,<\/div>\n
And owned him lord, below!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

He dwelt in Eden\u2019s garden, stored<\/div>\n
With sweets for every sense;<\/div>\n
And there with his descending Lord<\/div>\n
He walked in confidence.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
But O! by sin how quickly changed!<\/div>\n
His honor forfeited,<\/div>\n
His heart, from God and truth, estranged,<\/div>\n
His conscience filled with dread!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
Now from his Maker\u2019s voice he flees,<\/div>\n
Which was before his joy:<\/div>\n
And thinks to hide, amidst the trees,<\/div>\n
From an all seeing eye.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Compelled to answer to his name,<\/div>\n
With stubbornness and pride<\/div>\n
He cast, on God Himself, the blame,<\/div>\n
Nor once for mercy cried.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
But grace, unasked, his heart subdued<\/div>\n
And all his guilt forgave;<\/div>\n
By faith, the promised seed he viewed,<\/div>\n
And felt His pow\u2019r to save.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Thus we ourselves would justify,<\/div>\n
Though we the law transgress;<\/div>\n
Like him, unable to deny,<\/div>\n
Unwilling to confess.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

But when by faith the sinner sees<\/div>\n
A pardon bought with blood;<\/div>\n
Then he forsakes his foolish pleas,<\/div>\n
